Afghan poet wins Fajr top award

Famed Afghan poet Seyed Reza Mohammadi wins top award at Fajr Poetry Festival held in Iranian capital city of Tehran.

The great poet was awarded the top prize for his work titled 'Melancholy Soul of a Poet' published in Iran.

The award ceremony was held at Iran National Library and Archives with Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi in attendance.

Mohammadi is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young poets writing in Persian today.

His poetry has gained him several accolades, including the Afghan Ministry of Culture award in 2004 as well as Iran's best young poet awards in 1996 and 1997.

The jury for the 13th edition of Fajr Poetry Festival decided to split the top award between Mohammadi and Iranian poet Abouzar Pakravan for his work titled 'Domino'.
